Fulton Jr. High: Curriculum

Academic Award Descriptions

August 01, 2008

Fulton Jr. High Academic Awards
Listed below is a brief description of each academic award available to Fulton students throughout the course of their junior high experience.

Honor Roll
The District Honor Roll is applicable to each grading period for both 7th and 8th grades. The honor Roll contains three categories:
High Honors - A combined grade point average of 4.0
Honors - A combined grade point average of at least 3.3 but less than 4.0
Honorable Mention - A combined grade point average of at least 3.0 but less than 3.3

The combined grade point average for all academic subjects (Literature, Mathematics, Social Studies, Language Skills, Science, and PE/ Health) will be used to determine the eligibility of each student for the Honor Roll. Grade points for each student will be accumulated as follows:
A = 4, B = 3, C = 2, D = 1, F = 0

The combined grade point average is computed for each student by dividing the total grade points by six (6). To be eligible for the Honor Roll, a student must have attained the minimum combined grade point average for one (1) of the categories as defined previously. An "I" (Incomplete) grade in any academic subject at the end of the grading period disqualifies a student from the Honor Roll. This does not preclude a requirement for work to be completed by the student after the grading period has ended. If a student received a ME (Medical Excuse), he/she may still be eligible for the Honor Roll, after completing the required work and attaining the other eligibility requirements.

National Junior Honor Society
There is National Junior Honor Society for those students who maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.60 or better on a 4.0 point system during the first three nine-week periods of the school year in which he or she is eligible. The student must also meet the requirements of citizenship, leadership, and character as determined by the administration and faculty. Both 7th and 8th grade students are eligible for induction. After being inducted into the Society as a 7th grader, the student must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.60. If at the end of the first three quarters of his or her 8th grade year the student's cumulative average is below 3.60 he or she will be disqualified from membership in the National Junior Honor Society.

Valedictorian and Salutatorian Awards
These two awards are presented at the 8th grade graduation ceremony. The awards recognize students who have maintained a 4.0 average and a 3.9 average, respectively, during their two-year enrollment at EAF. All academic and elective classes will be evaluated to determine GPA for these two awards
